Visual identity for BowTie Design, our design company at school.
In the past only professors and doctors used bow ties, but today the bow tie (in bold colors) is a modern accessory. That’s why a bow tie is the perfect mark for a graphic design company run by young professional people.
The logo is made to also look like a folded paper to emphasize our speciality in printed products.
Update:
We won 1. price for best logo at the Norwegain national competion for youth companies!
Jury comment:
The logo shows a good understanding of strategic design - that principle is always aunique idea that says something about the brand’s core, in this example, the company’s philosophy. The logo is balanced and capable carried out according tobasic design principles. It is positive that it shows how the logo is designed and provides detailed explanations of what you intend with the identity. The team has also invested in the presentation of the logo on selected surfaces, allowing the jury to get an understanding of how the logo will appear as part of a larger identity system. In today’s multi-media world, it is also a strong plus that logos are easy to animate, and will work well on screen-based interfaces.
Been working a little with the iPhone app since the last post. Also started on a new project designing a bike for boys aged 4-8. This is an heat icon for the iphone app. The fan icon will be pulsing slowly.
Note 5:
Practice what you preach.
Third day as an intern at Work.
Yesterday I was out taking photos of signs and analyzing signage systems. Today I got to work on an icon of a propeller for an iPhone app. After brainstorming and sketching I went all out with the construction. The icon is built of circles sized after the golden ratio. This makes the icon nice to look at. Not sure this will work well on a small screen, but it was fun doing it.
Note 3:
Try different brainstorming techniques if you get stuck
Note 4:
Don’t settle on an idea, even if you like it. Keep brainstorming!
Today was my first day as an intern at Work. Already learned more than 3 weeks in school. My head feels like a sponge filled with water. Spent the whole day doing research on signage systems for a project they’re working on. Tomorrow is field research day. Really fun to get to work on real projects. This is gonna be 3 rewarding weeks!
Note 1:
Go beyond the product you’re designing.
What’s the real problem?
Note 2:
Research is very important.
I found these great collections of vintage ads and book covers on Flickr. So, I got really inspired and made this Knoll inspired poster of The Corona Chair. I had so much fun making the light/tweed-ish background! I ended up with 10 different version of the background, but finally decided on a darker one.
